Fire and Smoke Damage

We know a home or business disaster such as a fire is a traumatic event. The days and weeks following a fire are an emotional time full of uncertainty and disbelief. During this time decisions must be made that affect precious possessions and many people's largest asset, their home or business. No one expects a fire to happen to them, and therefore they frequently are unprepared for what they must do to help return their lives back to normal.

Fire emits a variety of chemicals and soot, depending on the source of the fire. This creates challenges in cleaning and decontamination, which can be hindered if not done properly. In addition, smoke can be caustic in nature resulting in the necessity for prompt removal to minimize damage to fabrics, ferrous metals, electronic devices, chrome and painted surfaces.

Fire restoration requires working knowledge of structural components of a building, odor control techniques, specialized cleaning procedures, and products. Also an understanding of how heat, smoke and soot affect the contents and the structure.

"As a firefighter I have encountered many home disasters over the years and have grown accustomed to working with people having the worst day of their lives. When a house fire destroyed the garage and the second story of our home last June, however, I was totally unprepared. Like most people, my family was displaced, directionless and unsure of what needed to be done to get our lives back to normal.

The following day we met with Justin and the people of Valley Maintenance to discuss our options. Justin immediately put us at ease by walking us through the process and joining us when meeting with insurance representatives. Valley Maintenance handled the situation professionally but, more importantly, treated us as neighbors and friends. Amy and I were so comfortable with our decision to go with Valley Maintenance that we were able to leave for several weeks to attend a family reunion. During this time, we received frequent updates and photographs of the reconstruction process.

Valley Maintenance stayed on schedule throughout the reconstruction and kept the project moving smoothly. Throughout the process they provided helpful suggestions, obtained the best subcontractors at reasonable prices and ensured the quality of the work. As the work progressed, it became apparent that Valley Maintenance was more than a general contractor; the company served as an advocate for our needs (in working with both subcontractors and the insurance company) and kept our satisfaction as the foremost consideration. The entire staff was courteous and helpful and became familiar with details of our reconstruction. Furthermore, they remained focused on our needs until the entire project was complete.

My wife Amy and I give Valley Maintenance our highest possible recommendation and would be more than happy to discuss our positive experience with the company with anyone facing a reconstruction project."
